We eat turtles, alligators, and squirrels, but mostly we eat fish. That’s what you eat when you live in a swamp. Ellen and I live on the Guadalupe River Delta on the Texas Gulf Coast. I have lived here all my life . . . Ellen came to live with me two years ago after commuting for six years.
Ellen is a city gal, much like Eileen in my novel Into Autumn. I teach her the ways of the swamp and she teaches me more than I could have ever imagined. Ellen loves the catfish, eels, and blue crabs the river provides. She is becoming a darn good fisherwoman too.
We are both good cooks . . . different styles of cooking, but that only gives us more variety. I make a mean platter of fudge. We both love to travel and take exotic vacations regularly, but my favorite destination is Las Vegas to play in the World Series of Poker which I have done for over a decade now. I cashed the Senior Championship three consecutive years.
